Editorial & Headshot Portraits

I do not post about this type of work often but, besides photographing weddings and your adorable families, I also do a lot of editorial and headshot portraits. Sometimes this work is not the most exciting aesthetically to show off here on my blog but sometimes, it’s pretty fun. When photographing editorial work, I often have to wait patiently for months before seeing the final portrait in print format. It’s always fun to see how my images end up. I recently photographed an entertainment lawyer at the Thompson Hotel. I had about forty-five minutes to photograph her in the lobby and rooftop. It was a good challenge for me and we ended up with a bunch of different options for the final images. The above portrait was then used in a magazine ad. Another recent editorial portrait session that I did was with Ryerson University Magazine. I am a graduate of Ryerson so it’s a lot of fun to now work for them. The portrait was photographed at my studio. We were going for a fresh shot to showcase what the subject does in her profession. I just love the end result.Editorial Portrait | Jessica Blaine Smith

In the past few months I have also done a number of small headshot portrait sessions. Sometimes they are pretty standard; photographed straight-up with a white backdrop. Other times, I am given more creative free range like you see in the image below of the CMO of Tangerine. I think that in this wild digital age of social media, more people are starting to learn how important it is to have a professional portrait done. That selfie done on your iPhone just does not suffice anymore if you are trying to stand out from everyone else. Editorial Portrait | Jessica Blaine SmithHeadshot Portrait | Jessica Blaine Smith
