Portraits | Writer Sandy B

One of the many reasons that I love what I do is that through my photography, I am able to connect with some pretty amazing people. I get to meet them, get to know them and then get to capture who they are through my camera. Occasionally these subjects become great friends. These are the things that get me up in the morning feeling thankful for the life that I lead. I recently had a great portrait session with the lovely Sandy Braz. I have been obsessing admiring her personal blog for a while and loved how she expressed everything in her life. I wanted to met her and hang out and make some great images. For the portrait session, we planned to meet at her house and then head to Sandy’s favourite neighbourhood – The Junction. We drank coffee at her home and in amongst the heavy life conversations that we had, I took photos of Sandy. She lives in a great house with tons of options for portrait-making. After an outfit change, we then headed out to the street.

I believe that the best portraits are made when there is a connection between the photographer and the subject. I do my best to have this connection with my clients. As soon as they book me for a session, I send them a link to my “Who Are You” form. It is a way for me to get to know them better, to understand why they want portraits made and also to get them thinking about the final images.

Sandy is a great writer and lovely person. She sets goals for her life and she accomplishes them. She is also about to live the dream by heading off to Paris to reside for a few weeks. There she will write and live as a Parisian. I love this.

sandyb - To find these sweet words on my screen this morning… about me? Ugh, Jess, thank YOU, my friend. The pleasure was equally mine and I’ve been gushing about you and your work to other friends ever since. Hiding behind a laptop most of the day, it was reassuring you know I can still bust out a few smile for the camera every now and again.
