Travel | Santa Monica & Venice Beach, California

I was in Santa Monica for a couple of days last week. It was a whirlwind trip but there was some time to wander around and take photos just for me. When I first got into photography, I used to do this all the time. I would look for interesting store windows and signs to capture. I found it peaceful, especially considering at the time I was shooting with film so I would not know my end results until days later when the negatives were processed. This was my first time in California and I have to say that I loved what I saw. Here are some of my favourite images that I took while walking around Santa Monica and Venice Beach on this recent trip.

Sarah + Mike are married! Their wedding took place on a blistery January evening and I loved it. We began at One King West for “getting ready” photos before heading to The Richmond where all of the festivities took place. Since no downtown wedding is complete without my favourite streetcar photos, we headed to Spadina Avenue for some wedding party shots before the ceremony. I love cocktail wedding receptions. They allow the guests to move around and really party it up. Congratulations, Sarah + Mike!

A Winter Walk in Ferris Provincial Park

Since I am in sunny California today, I thought that it would be a good day to post some winter photos that I took recently when I was in Campbellford, Ontario. On a perfect wintery day, we went for a walk in Ferris Provincial Park. Everything was covered in snow and the tree branches glistened with ice. It was gorgeous to say the least.

My Mom’s collie, Antrim, thinks he is pretty spectacular.

The Prettiest Wedding Album

Remember Abby + Justin’s wedding back in August? Here is an album designed with the photos. I love designing these albums so much! I love that the dust jacket is different than the actual album cover. I love that the images run seamlessly across the spread without the interruption of a gutter. I love how the colours pop and the black & whites are as rich as can be.

I have been photographing editorial portraits a lot for The Kit and wanted to share some images some recent shoots. These shots were for the printed supplement of The Kit that comes in the Toronto Star every Thursday. The first assignment was to photograph Janet Han, owner of Fashionably Yours. Janet is an expert on all things handbags. The second assignment was of Amina Said who is the Public Relations coordinator at Holt Renfrew and is an avid shoe collector. On both shoots I drooled over the products! You can see the original stories that were for The Kit here and here.

The Caketress makes pretty cakes

I photographed this cake a few months ago for Lori of The Caketress and totally forgot to blog about it! Lori designed the cake to go with a creative wedding shoot by the Dubai-based wedding planning company, Carousel and the photos were printed in the Dubai wedding magazine, VIVA Weddings. I love the vibrant colours of the flowers along with the elegant gold.

It has been a while since I have blogged some of my Holga images. Today I am dreaming of hot, sunny weather and thinking up my travel plans for the coming year. Here are some holgas from my last trip to Mexico when I visited the states Querétaro and Guanajuato. I know that you already know that I love this country, a ton. Here is a reminder of why. <3

Mexican Holgas is a personal project that I have been working on for the past five years. When I travel, my Holga camera is regularly in tow. These images are what inspire me to always continue creating.
